It's ironic two things are going on at the same time. There's a real predisposition in FM radio to entertaining new talk formats, just as they're losing their major talk talent.

It slows the rate of fire spread. It actually will put the fire out and burn on through. This stuff, when the fire burns up to it, it completely puts it out ... if it's mixed right.

It's very common in radio for people to re-hire someone they let go. Opie and Anthony have ratings in New York and a loyal following, and they know how to do the shock genre successfully, which not many people do.

It's a smart move. I think they are accomplished practitioners of the hot talk genre.

A lot of people in political talk radio are still on that left-versus-right formula because it's been working. You can be sure that if it continues to show a decline in ratings, they'll alter the course.

You're in a dark, quiet room, there's nobody there, and you may not get your first ratings for a year. If you don't enjoy the process, you're not going to get the instant gratification. Radio is not fulfilling to an ego that needs instant excitement and a loud crowd.

You've just got to go out and play with the pieces you have. Right now, every team's trying to keep going, every team knows this is it, so you're going to get everybody's best effort. Nobody wants to go home.
